Mesa Morningside's form emulates and celebrates its setting. Clay brick, black metal, and concrete render give a nod to the area’s industrial past, while oriel windows and vertical metal louvres give contemporary punctuation to the building’s facade. Along the eastern border, Pohutukawa trees form an evergreen fringe. The result is a building that feels distinct yet gentle, iconic yet in total harmony with its surrounds. A rumination on days gone by and a spark of inspiration for those to come.

Buildings are designed as one entity, yet homes are experienced on an individual level — shaped by the sights, sounds and textures we encounter as we move through them. Exploring this, Studio Thom Ward has created a sequence of repeated and isolated moments for residents as they make their way from the bustling local streets into the quiet of their homes.

Made to endure from materials that will stand the test of time, Mesa adds a new piece to Morningside’s mosaic: a home for today and a benchmark for tomorrow.
